Apteryx has received several reports regarding Apteryx’s name being used in an on-going scam where cybercriminals call someone and claim to be from our Tech Support department (the cybercriminals also commonly use Microsoft’s and other computer company’s names) and offer to remote into your system to help with some form of computer problems. Once the crooks have gained access to your system, they attempt to steal information and/or install malware and spyware on your computer.
Apteryx does not make unsolicited phone calls to remote into your computer to perform some form of technical support. Treat all unsolicited phone calls with skepticism and do not provide any personal information. Under no circumstances should you allow those individuals to gain remote access to your computer. If you receive a call of this nature, do not to respond to any communications from these scammers.
If you receive an unsolicited call from someone claiming to be from Apteryx Tech Support, hang up.
